ABOUT US

John Searl Forestry is an independent forestry and woodland management and consultancy practice established in January 2013.

Our principal, John Searl, graduated with an honours degree in Forestry at UCNW Bangor and is a Chartered Forester.

Since 1986, John has worked in private sector forestry throughout the UK for a variety of clients - some traditional estates, others private investors and farmers, or for people who just enjoy woodlands.

We aim to offer all of the services that a woodland owner may need: we undertake both woodland establishment and restocking operations following timber harvesting, silvicultural interventions such as crop cleaning, respacing or thinning; we also undertake fencing and boundary maintenance works and a range of road construction, drainage and infrastructure works.

We provide survey services to evaluate crop potential and yield, discover where crops are not performing and propose remedial action and identify vegetation types in order that the ecological worth of woodlands can be determined.

We are client-focused and our aim is to ensure that our service to you is clear in its delivery and that our relationship with you will be long-term.

The ICF Code of Conduct is the foundation upon which chartered status is built. All members of the Institute are required to adhere to and promote this Code in order to uphold the integrity and reputation of the profession of forestry and arboriculture and to safeguard the public interest in matters of safety and health and otherwise.

The ICF Code of Conduct is composed of six key standards: act with integrity, always provide a high standard of service, treat others with respect, take responsibility, act in a way that promotes trust in the profession, and have regard for sustainability throughout your work.

The forestry industry is one of the most dangerous sectors in which to work in the UK. In response to this, representatives from many of the leading industry organisations joined together to form a steering group. Together they have developed a Forest Industry Safety Accord (FISA) which sets out the commitment that those working in the sector can make to raise the standard of health and safety in their place of work.

Amongst other things, the Accord supports the development of a new safety culture where the health, safety and welfare of all those working in the forestry industry is a fundamental priority.

The Confederation of Forest Industries (UK) aims to support sustainable forestry and wood-using businesses through political engagement, market promotion and supporting its members' competitiveness.

It gives a small sector a more powerful voice. It represents the whole forestry and wood ‘supply chain’ and focuses on the strategic issues that are vital to the success and sustainable future of the sector. These include helping build the market for wood and forest products, creating a supportive policy environment, and helping members to become more competitive and successful.
